Niladri Kumaar: Space Between the Notes

Experience the artistry of internationally acclaimed sitar virtuoso and composer Niladri Kumaar, one of the most innovative voices in Indian music today. Revered for his mastery of Indian classical traditions and celebrated for pushing the boundaries of the art form, Kumaar creates performances that are both deeply rooted and strikingly contemporary.

In Space Between the Notes, Kumaar honors his longtime musical partnership with the legendary Zakir Hussain through music inspired by their final recorded live performance together, captured in Mumbai and released as a landmark album. Hussain was part of UtahPresents’ 2024–25 season, but his passing just two months before the performance prevented the highly anticipated appearance, and this concert brings the story full circle.    Joined by an ensemble of Indian musicians, Kumaar performs on both the traditional sitar and his own pioneering Zitar, blending centuries-old musical traditions with bold new sounds.
