Organization
Salt Lake Choral Artists
Salt Lake Choral Artists is one of America's premier community choirs, delighting audiences with outstanding choral performances for many years. Under the excellent guidance of Dr. Brady Allred, SLCA continues a tradition of superb community choral singing that began as the Jay Welch Chorale. With the appointment of Dr. Allred as Artistic Director and conductor in the summer of 2004, the organization took on a new mission and name.
The group has been revitalized and reorganized to include a concert choir of 160 voices, a 42-member chamber choir, and a 57-member women's choir. This creates greater diversity of repertoire which allows more singers to participate in a high-level artistic experience and enhances audience appeal. The choir focuses on classical, contemporary, and culturally diverse music and emphasizes collaborations with other performing groups from the community.
Hired in 2003 as Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies at the University of Utah, Dr. Allred is the recent winner of two prestigious international choral festivals with his University of Utah Singers, an accomplishment that has brought significant recognition to Utah and the University. Dr. Allred has applied his wealth of choral conducting experience, remarkable range of musical talent, and exceptional leadership to bring the Salt Lake Choral Artists to a higher level of artistic excellence. His skills have generated new enthusiasm among choir members, serious interest from the media, and the attention of donors who recognize the importance of promoting top-quality performing arts in this community.
With a talented director, a committed, hard-working board, enthusiastic choir members and continued community support, there is no doubt SLCA will reach its goal of providing a unifying and uplifting musical experience and of enhancing educational opportunities.-

The Elijah oratorio is not done as frequently as Messiah. In the past I’ve had to wait years to hear it performed live. When I last heard it the the soloist was the major draw. But under the demanding and gifted work of Dr. Brady Allred the Salt Lake Choral Artists have been able to devote the time and preparation this piece deserves. As a member of his choir I can attest it has been rigorous work, but at the same time pleasure. What glorious music this is, and telling such an incredible story. For the time being my favorite moment in the oratorio is when the men sing "Go return upon thy way" –music so beautifully crafted by Mendelssohn and coupled with the vocal skill Allred magically pulls from the men’s section it is like you are transported to the prophet's side and hearing the commission with Elijah himself.
