Teapots: Object to Subject
April 6-May 25, 2008
This exhibition takes a closer look at what is normally considered a simple utilitarian vessel used to hold tea. However, these teapots are anything but ordinary. Kimball Executive Director, Pam Crowe-Weisberg, is proud to bring such a hot item to Utah, 'Teapots are the craze in the ceramic art world right now and these objects are some of the best and most innovative in the country. Locals and tourists are going to love this exhibition at the Kimball Art Center.' In the exhibition, find the teapot's traditional silhouette: a protruding pour spout, a handle loop for which to pour, and a symmetrical container for liquids, transformed to the most curious contemporary interpretations of the form. The 45 objects included in the exhibit were selected from among the finest entries in the 2004 Survey of Contemporary American Teapots at the Craft Alliance in St. Louis, Missouri curated by Leslie Ferrin. Visitors will encounter teapots modeled after a disparate array of subjects, including a stack of cardboard boxes, a female sunbather, and a painting by Botticelli. Other objects in this exhibition are unique because they are made with materials that are not generally associated with teapots such as cloth or precious metals.

I love the new exhibit. It reminds me of the 1950s and 60s. It is true pop art. Fresh take on old ideas. Love it!!!
