Since 1987, the Utah Arts Council Folk Arts Program has hosted free concerts of folk music and ethnic dance at the Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts, located in the center of Salt Lake City's Liberty Park. Bring your lawn chair or picnic blanket! This Monday, come and enjoy Tahitian music and drumming by Jon Rochette and Family, as well as Hawaiian dance by the Ka Lama Mohala Dancers with Kuma Hula Kawika Alfiche! Jon Rochette is a native of Tahiti, where he learned traditional styles of Polynesian drumming. In 2008, he was awarded a Utah Arts Council grant to pass on this dynamic art form to his daughters, who will be performing with him on stage. Under the direction of Kuma Hula Kawika Alfiche, the Ka Lama Mohala Dancers present both ancient and modern styles of Hawaiian hula.
